Harlow 1-0 Maldon & Little Baddow
Essex Premier League
Harlow continued their fine start to the season with a tight win over visitors Maldon & Little Baddow. Their fourth straight victory retained top spot in the Essex Premier Division with goal difference separating Harlow from the only other unbeaten team, Basildon.
The match started at pace with Harlow pushing forward from the whistle to put the visitors under pressure but the well-marshalled defence kept fine attacks from Bethan Price and Charlotte Byers at bay. When a series of short corners were not converted Maldon came further into the game with clinical hitting from Stella Shires always providing an outlet for the coastal team. With 18 minutes goal in the first half however Harlow managed to beat the excellent Maldon ‘keeper, a fine effort from Carolyn Rushton deflected into goal by forward Sonya Amos.
The second half reflected the first with Harlow having the better of the chance's with Charlotte Byers again causing havoc in the opposing circle and player of the match Petra Trimble controlling midfield but with only the one goal separating the two teams a nervous 5 minutes saw Maldon go close to finding the equaliser. Only quick thinking by Jo Green in defence and Nicky Chesworth in goal denied the visitors from finding parity but it was not to be and Harlow go forward to Saturdays top of the table clash with Basildon in fine spirits.
Harlow will have to up their game next Saturday against the side that narrowly missed promotion last season when they travel to Gloucester Park in Basildon.
