Harlow 2 2-1 East London 3
East League, Division 7SE
After two defeats on the road it was back to home sand this past Saturday. Bouyed by a welcome return to the sport of Ali Castle after his latest career threatening injury Harlow begun in positive fashion with a return to a 3,3,4 formation. Castle anchored a defence and rolled back the years with his no questions asked tackling and interceptions, deservedly winning the Man of the Match award. At the other end of the park both Cox and Hastler probed and worked their defenders over, whilst Maxfield found his form again in front of goal - Cox laying a perfect nudge into his path to round the visitor's 'keeper and convert at the far post. The fine work was almost undone however as East London won a series of penalty corners in the 2nd half, and eventually converted a scrappy effort - Boughtwood and Harvey had previously been superb in clearing what seemed goal bound attempts. Within minutes however the Green & White's were back on top and in the lead - Maxfield finishing off Adam's fine slalom run on goal. A deserved 3 points in all.
Armsworth, Grace, Boughtwood, Castle, Harvey, Grace, Lim, Adams, Cox, Maxfield, Hastler, (Chandler C).

Upminster 4 4-0 Harlow 2
East League, Division 7SE
The scoreline truly flattered an Upminster side who previously had failed to record a point beforehand. Harlow had much the better run of the game's opening exchanges however it was the U's who grabbed the goals at penalty corners on three seperate occasions - all before half time. A stern and frank analysis at half time saw the away side come out much the stronger after the break, and but for a coat of paint could have got back into it straight away - Paul Beverley's drag flick hammering off the underside of the bar and eventually being cleared after a mix up. Maxfield then had a 'goal' chalked off for an apparent indiscression. With Harlow pushing up Upminster broke and their tidy Centre Forward rounded off the scoring with a well taken goal.
Armsworth, Cox, Boughtwood, Grace, Harvey, Grace, Beverley, Lim, Haggar, Maxfield, Hastler, (Mace).

Chelmsford 5 3-0 Harlow 2
East League, Division 7SE
Harlow travelled away to the other side wearing green in their league and sported a change kit of purple - the colour of the visitors faces after a 2nd half capitulation. Chances rained in on the Chelm goal in the opening 35 minutes yet none were successfully converted by messers Boughtwood (A) and Adams despite their best efforts. At the turn round the scoreline of 0 a peice flattered the home side. A slip in defence by the younger of the Grace duo lead to a firm shot passing the helpless Armsworth between the posts to break the parity. One became two shortly after, and despite the hard work of Haggar and Mace Harlow were unable still the breatch the goal line. Cox and Harvey worked tirelessly down the flanks, and from a long pass Maxfield crashed one against the posts - Adams unlucky in his follow up. Proceedings were rounded off by Chelm who scored a late third.
Armsworth, Cox, Boughtwood, Grace, Harvey, Grace, Haggar, Adams, Mace, Maxfield, Boughtwood.

Harlow 2 2-0 Dunmow 2
East League, Division 7SE
Two League games, two victories, however the story of this one brings back players from the past making immediate impact and the youth of today becoming ever presents of the future. As a defensive pairing you could count the number of appearance Paul Beverley and Shane Grace had made for the 2's, Paul just back to playing after a couple of years away and Shane in only his 3rd game for the club let alone 2nd team. Both played a big hand in ensuring the 3 points stayed at home. Early in the game Harlow pressed deep into Dunmow's territory and were rewarded with a penalty corner. The ball, injected by Grace senior in brother Dean, was controlled by Maxfield and laid into the path of Beverley who decieved the advancing 'keeper in the air to finish with aplomb, 1-0.
One became two just before the half our mark as Harlow's first half domination showed as Captain, Steve Maxfield converted a chance created by the aforementioned Beverley at the hub of everything good again.
Mike Armsworth had a relatively quiet afternoon between the posts, his able defense boosted by the return of Martin Cox, and Kim Harvey were able to snuff out any threats from the visitors attack. Shane Grace controlling his offensive opponent superbly well. The ever patient Patrick Lim showed glimpes that his future lays just in front of the back four, whilst the explosive Ottley and Shaun Hastler were perhaps more pheripheral than either hoped for. Hastler had a goal debatebly chalked off in the late stages following determined work by Adam Ottley sniping in off his left hand berth, the scoreline remained the same at the final whistle.
Harlow travel to Chelmsford this weekend.

Saffron Walden 4 1-2 Harlow 2
East League, Division 7SE
Harlow travelled to posh Essex on Saturday to face the wealth of a club based at Newport Grammer School, and came away with all three points.
Early exchanges saw the Green & Whites take advantage of a somewhat defensive home side with a number of chances going just wide or repelled by a very high standard Walden 'Keeper. Eventually the deadlock was broken after a well worked penalty corner saw Shaun the 'Wookie' Hastler slot home from a nose after sterling work from Harvey, Kirk, Cox and Prodger. The heat of the Indian Summer paid it toll on both sides and it was with relief that matters came to a halt after 35 minutes.
Revelling in the glow of sun on their backs the purple and gold home side applied more pressure during quarter 3 and eventually a slip from the almost impeccable Symonds saw a levelling goal as Armsworth was beaten at his near post for a tight angle. The Grace's of Shane and Dean did their utmost at both ends to cement and pulverise the channels, however what went begging were chances for the triangle of Hagger, Maxfield & Hastler. With time up Harlow won a penalty corner, Maxfield having failed with an array of chances allayed his demons and converted from the top of the circle.
Side: Armsworth, Symonds, Prodger, Grace, Harvey, Cox, Kirk, Grace, Haggar, Maxfield (c), Hastler.
